Canon's "big white" zoom lenses are among Canon's most popular offerings, but the only lens released for the RF mount so far is the RF 70-200mm f / 2.8 L IS USM. The company is said to have two large white lenses up its sleeve for 2021.
Canon rumors indicate that the next two lenses in this category are slated to be released next year, with 300mm f / 2.8 IS USM among them.
Currently, Canon has a tough grip on fast lenses under 200mm in diameter, with 15-35mm f / 2.8, 24-70mm f / 2.8 and 70-200mm f / 2.8 lenses available. However, with reports of a sports-focused Canon R1 camera coming next year. Besides 2021 being the new date for the Olympics, Canon's remote shooting options are noticeably lacking.
It stands to reason that a 300mm f / 2.8 lens would come alongside the Canon R1, but CanonRumors sources were not sure what a second "big white" zoom lens was. Although many would undoubtedly want a 400mm f / 2.8 vision to compete with the Sony E-Mount version of that lens. Sony, however, has been slow to release its giant zoom when compared to E-Mount's launch.
Such a lens is not only a huge challenge in development but in manufacturing as well. The FE 400mm f / 2.8 was produced in very small numbers at launch, with most of them having to wait for the better part of the year before being able to get one.
Given the challenges in manufacturing, it appears that instead of releasing two, Canon will mix the 300mm firing with a lens that is more easy to produce but still desirable.
Probably one candidate would be the RF version of the popular EF 100-400mm f / 4.5-5.6.
And relatively compact lenses like 100-400mm are in great demand by wildlife and sports photographers. Given that a large number of summer sports take place outside, the smaller f / 4.5-5.6 aperture wouldn't be a concern.

However, this is still all just speculation, so we'll ask all of you: What “big white” Canon would you like to see next year? What do you think is the most reasonable option? Write your opinions in the comments.
