Zoom released a new 32-bit ultra-compact field audio recorder, Zoom F2, in two models, one of which is Bluetooth enabled. Both Zoom F2 models include a Lavalier microphone.

One of the most important features of the new voice recorder

• Light and compact sound recorder
• 32-bit Float recording for full dynamic range and open recording
• No gain adjustment required
• Records 44.1kHz / 32-bit float audio files or 48kHz / 32-bit float audio files
• Rec Hold function to avoid unintended operation of buttons
• Stereo line-out jack for phone / line with dedicated volume control
• 80Hz low cut filter
• High-fidelity internal clock (± 0.5ppm) to avoid audio and video sync issues
• Wireless timecode synchronization (F2-BT only)
• Recording is done directly to micro SD and SDHC cards up to 512GB
• USB-C to connect to Settings Editor
• Built-in Bluetooth to connect to the F2 Control app to configure settings and control remote transfer (F2-BT model only)
• Only run on two standard AAA, Li, NiMH, or AC adapter (AD-17) batteries

The important aspect of this recorder is the inclusion of a 32-bit float because this prevents clipping and can be easily fixed in montage.

The F2-BT is available for use with app-based control and wireless timecode synchronization when used with UltraSync BLUE by Timecode systems.

F2 is designed for belt mounting and is also pocket friendly due to its compact size. The hold key will keep the recording no matter which button you press.

The F2 includes a microphone, headphone-out lockout connector, and portability controls.
The files can be transferred to a computer via USB, then use the accompanying Steinberg WaveLab Cast software to edit, enhance, mix and export the audio.

LAVALIER MIC supplied

Includes a polar pattern omnidirectional microphone with a 3.5mm locking connector. The omnidirectional polar pattern is designed to provide consistent sound capture from all directions, resulting in reliable sound capture even when a person turns their head or the position of the microphone changes. Also, three wind filters are provided to easily reduce light wind noise. Other brand lavaliers microphones can be used with a 3.5mm jack connection.

  •  Connectivity: 3.5 mm stereo with locking access
  •  Directivity: Omnidirectional
  •  Maximum inlet sound pressure: 115 dB SPL
  •  Cable Length: 160 cm

32 bit float recording

The F2 recorder uses 32-bit float recording technology to capture intensely loud signals without overloading A / D converters, and to produce extremely quiet sounds without noise, all without the need for any audio modification.

Registry settings

F2 features two high-quality recording resolutions to choose from - 32-bit / 44.1kHz or 32-bit / 48kHz, both of which are in uncompressed WAV format. No data compression means no loss of quality in creating audio files. Use the built-in 80Hz low-cut filter to reduce the build-up of rumble and bass in your recordings.

The INPUT entry

  •  CONNECTOR: 3.5 mm stereo mini (with screw lock) Supports plug-in power (2.5 V)
  •  INPUT GAIN: None (dual AD conversion system)
  •  INPUT IMPEDANCE: 2 kΩ or more
  •  MAXIMUM INPUT LEVEL: −5.5 dBu

The output is OUTPUT

  •  CONNECTOR: 3.5 mm stereo mini (with screw lock)
  •  MAXIMUM OUTPUT LEVEL: 20 mW + 20 mW (into 32Ω load)

Although not mentioned by Zoom, I will assume that production in US editions will be discontinued during registration due to a US patent.

Record directly to microSD cards
Increase portability by recording directly to a microSD / microSDHC / microSDXC card (available separately) for up to 512GB of storage space.

Microphone / line input with plug-in power
F2 can absorb microphone or line level signals via the 3.5mm stereo mini jack input. Since it provides 2.5V additional power, you can use popular condenser microphones such as lavaliers, headphones, and earphones.

energy

The F2 is powered by two rechargeable AAA, Lithium or NiMH batteries, the Zoom AD-17 Power Adapter (available separately), or a USB Type-C battery pack (available separately).
