The new DJI Action 2 has a different design this time, it's compact and offers an ultra wide angle lens, waterproof design, solid aluminum body, magnets and OLED touchscreen accessories.

The camera can record 4K 4:3 video at up to 60 fps or 4K UHD at up to 120 fps in H.265. The camera comes in different configurations and offers a whole system of add-ons and accessories. Pricing starts at $399.

The DJI Action 2 is different from its predecessor, the Osmo Action. The camera itself is much smaller and features a modular magnetic design, so you can add various accessories to enhance its functionality. Aside from the camera, the DJI Action 2 includes different modules — the front touch screen, power unit, and various side mounting hardware — that can be swapped.

The camera module weighs only 56 grams and measures 4 x 4 x 2.2 cm. It has a built-in battery and a storage capacity of 32 GB. The body is dust-proof, water-resistant to 10 meters, and drop-resistant. The aluminum body looks sturdy and distinct and serves as a heatsink for the interior. The camera has a 1.76-inch OLED touch screen on the back and is protected by Gorilla Glass. The same screen is used in the front touch screen unit.

Big sensor and wide lens

For the DJI Action 2 camera, DJI used a 1/1.7 sensor - the same size as the DJI Pocket 2 sensor. This is larger than most other action cameras, such as the GoPro HERO 10 which has a 1/2.3 sensor. The lens is wider than the previous Osmo Action - it offers a 155-degree field of view. A newly applied color temperature sensor helps the camera restore color tones in complex lighting conditions and underwater recording for more natural results.

4K video modes only

Despite the larger sensor, the resolution is up to 4K. The highest possible video resolution is 4K 4:3 (4096 x 3072) which is available at up to 60 frames per second. For slow motion, 4K UHD can be used at up to 120fps, and FullHD can be played at up to 240fps.

Video modes are available in H.265 and less demanding in H.264 as well. Available color profiles are Normal and D-Cinelike. The camera can also capture raw DNG images at up to 12MP resolution.

Electronic damper, battery life and sound

The camera uses DJI's RockSteady 2.0 electronic image stabilization and more recently HorizonSteady for more stable shots. According to DJI, the built-in battery has a runtime of up to 70 minutes. The front touch screen unit extends this up to 160 minutes, and the connected power unit increases runtime to 180 minutes.

The DDI Action Cam 2 with the front touch screen unit can also be used with the DJI Matrix Stereo technology found in the DJI Pocket 2. The single microphone from the camera unit combines with the three microphones from the unit to record audio from every direction. SnapShot allows users to instantly start shooting by holding down the power button.

Smart Features

Like every DJI product, the Action 2 is also packed with a variety of robotic features:

• Slow Motion: Record video in slow motion (4x at 4K / 120 fps and 8 x 1080 pixels / 240 fps).
• Hyperlapse and Timelapse: While recording Hyperlapse, you can switch to and from recording at normal speed for more creative options.
• QuickClip: Set the device to take short videos of 10, 15 or 30 seconds for social media.
• Live broadcast: Use DJI Action 2 to broadcast live with a stable broadcast output of up to 1080p / 30fps.
• UVC: Use the DJI Action 2 as a USB video device class (UVC) for your PC for conference calls and live game broadcasts.

DJI Mimo

The DJI Mimo app connects to the Action 2 via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for more functionality, including live camera feeds, various story templates, and more. For users with a short time or new to creating content, Mimo includes an intuitive editor, which automatically selects recorded moments and combines them with transitions and music, creating videos for social media.
