After the release of firmware 2.00, Netflix added the Sony FX3 to its list of approved cameras under its 4K list.
Several weeks ago, Sony released a major firmware update for the Sony FX3 (version 2.00) that makes it a camera worthy of the "Cinema Line" moniker. The update adds a host of features designed specifically for cinematographers. This includes support for Cine EI workflows, customization of LUTs, and timecode synchronization.
Sony camera is now Sony FX3 for production on Netflix
In approving the Sony FX3, Netflix has focused on firmware update 2.00. The document primarily contains instructions for recording internally in 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) using the XAVC S-I 10-bit 4:2:2 codec within the frame. Acceptable frame rates include 23.98, 29.97, 59.94, and even 119.98 fps.
And since the camera can output a 16-bit 4K (4264 x 2408) RAW signal via HDMI to a compatible Atomos Ninja V/V+ recorder, Netflix has factored this into its camera output guide as well with this format.
